I need a new card reader to use mainly with SD and related SD-type cards of 4 gb or more. Doesn't have to be fancy or expensive. Can someone please suggest a reliable reader?

Thanks very much.

Does your computer support USB 3.0? And if not, is this going to be used on a PC desktop or a Mac?

I got a Transcend USB 2.0 card reader for about $8 on Amazon. Model was TS-RDP5K. Works fine for me, plus it's about the size of an average USB flash drive, so you can easily keep it in a bag with you.

USB 3.0 readers are starting to become more available, but they are usually physically larger and more expensive. Depending on how important your transfer speed is, they might be overkill.

Not always, I actually just picked up this one and its smaller than my slim and small USB 2 reader was: LINK (external link)

I should have mentioned that I'll be running a Macbook with OS X 10.5xx. I don't care too much about USB 3.

Not that theres much you can do about it since you cant really upgrade the latop (or maybe you can depending on whether or not it has an express port) but you should care about USB 3, its ridiculously faster: LINK

Maybe I should care, but I really don't. I just bought a great used Macbook off eBay for $300 and its USB 2 is fast enough for my needs.

Yeah, that's not bad for a USB 3.0, but most of the USB 3.0 readers are not as small as this one, or $8.

I bought a generic USB SDHC reader at Walmart, and after I formatted the card on my 60D, it was no longer recognized. Since it was a Sandisk 32GB class 10, I looked on Amazon and found a Sandisk reader. Bought it, and have had zero troubles reading the SDHC card. Until it arrived from Amazon, I had to use the dreaded 'wire' connection.

I've been using a Iogear SD card reader for the last few months. Bought it from B&H for $4.99 minus shipping.
