Bad news with my 1Dc, I have dropped it ! While I was preparing to take a Shot I had cleaned the Lens & placed the Camera back in the Camera Bag on my Car Passenger Seat. My Tripod was on the Back Seat with the zip to the passenger side, so I went round to the passenger side, got the QR Plate off the Tripod & opened the front passenger door to get the Camera. Unfortunately my Camera Bag was lent on the Door so my 1D fell out! It doesn't work anymore :(.
I am absolutely gutted as my 1Dc has given me 2 years of outstanding service.

I have treat myself to a 1D MkII as a replacement. This may not be the end of my 1Dc, it is at a Repair Shop to see if it can be fixed for sensible money. If it can be fixed I will keep it as a 2nd Body. Time (& the Repair Shop) will tell.

Here is the last Shot I took with my 1Dc before I dropped it.

I'm sorry to hear that :(

I would have lost all sanity if this had happened to me. I hope she pulls through.

Hang in there EOS-100-10-1D
Mean while I will post a couple of pics from the weekend taken in the centre of the North Island town of Toupo, We went there to crew for a mate of mine from Lowstoft who is over here for for the historic race season in his 1973 Fourmula Ford which I look after for him here in N.Z and he comes out every secound year to drive in three race meetings .
While at Toupo we spied an ice skating ring at the Lake front so my daughter insisted we shold all have a go. Both taken with 1D and good old faithful EF 70-210 usm.

Been a while since my last post. A few are from tournaments and a a few are from league matches.

For the tournament photos, I am using a 580 EX on my 1d Classic. Set to ETTL.

For the league matches, I am using a 580 EX on the 1d Classic and a 420 EX off camera fired by the 580.

All are shot with the Sigma 70-200mm 2.8, iso is 400, SS is 1/250th.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks

Scott

And here are a few of my 4 year old. He won his first match yesterday and it was neat to get to see him wrestle kids his own size. NOrmally he wrestles kids that are heavier and older and bigger. But we had a 35 lb. weight class and he is 32 pounds.

I have just got the quote for repairing my 1D Classic after I dropped it:

It requires a new Mirror Box & a Circuit Board:(. The cost to sort it is extremely close to how much I paid for it 2 years ago.:(.

But I am going ahead with the Repair:D

To bad Canon wouldn't consider making these old beauties again. Or at least keep repairing them for another 10+ years. The image quality the 1d is capable of is amazing.

To be honest, it's not worth their while to continue repairing them themselves. I had a chat with a Canon Authorized Repair Agent who said they would charge me about what the Camera is worth to Sevice it + the cost of any parts required (which turned out to be the Mirror Box & a Circuit Board = ouch!). I decided on the base of that to ask a local family-run Independant Repairers who gave me the quote I accepted (still not far off the Camera's value). Both the Authorized & the Independant Repairers assured me that most Parts are still available for the 1D Classic.

As regards making them again, they would probably be a bit cheaper to make than a MkIV but I don't think the difference would be vast so I doubt if there would be many takers.

The 1D Classic is a great Camera, enjoy using it, look after it (don't drop it !), but accept it's a Camera whose life in the mainstream has passed.
