Cybersync + Alienbee + 580EX II?

Dumb question...

I've recently purchased a set of cybersyncs - 1 trigger and 1 receiver. I have a 580EX II and an alienbee B800 on the way - can I trigger both at once with the cybersyncs if I pick up another receiver?

I assume you're asking about using the 580EX II off camera and manual (no ETTL). Answer is yes, you'll plug the 2nd receiver to the 580EX II via PC sync cord, set them all the same frequency.

why not just slave the 580?.....I use two speedlight this way....works great... and I have the cyber commander for the rest of the Alien bees.

How do you slave your 580? The details might help the OP.

The answer to your question is yes. The Cybersync's are simple triggers and they will fire your strobe and speedlight at the same time. I have done it in the past. Everything is a manual operation so you simply adjust your strobe/spedlight power and trigger it with your camera on manual.

Note: I use them in high school gyms, so the slave option on the 580 EX II doesn't come into play with me. I can't take the chance of someone else's flash triggering mine.

Thank you guys! This was exactly what I wanted to know.

Two options:
1) Connect the CSRB to the 580EX II via PC cord. Let the Alienbee fire on its own, with its built-in optical slave.
2) Purchase another Cybersync receiver (AC-powered version recommended) to plug into the Alienbee. Put both receivers on the same channel.

Option 1 will work for most indoor setups. Option 2 may be required for very large spaces or when other people are using flash in the vicinity.
