A 500mm f/5.6 IS or 600mm f/5.6 IS in the $1500 range would be really nice. I wouldn't even care if they were L or not.

I think this is nudging into wishful thinking. A 500/5.6 is going to be only a little bit smaller and lighter than a 300/2.8, and a 600/5.6 would have to be close in size (same front element diameter) as a 300/2.8.

So I figure (optimistically) that a 500/5.6 would be 2kg and about $3400 while a 600/5.6 would be about 2.5 kg and $4200.

I still think there would be a market for these lenses, especially with wildlife photographers. When you look at the difference from these to lenses like the 500/4 or the 600/4, these would be a lot cheaper and a lot more portable.

EF 14-85mm f/2

Would be sick on a FF body.

+ IS :p

Would be sick on any body and cost 4-5 grand and make the brick seem light in comparison.

I would love to see Canon up grade the 135L and 200L f/2.8 II to include weather sealing and 4 stop IS. Would also like to see a 600 f/4 DO IS.

How about a 70-200 1.8 with a 2X teleconverter with only a 1/3 stop of light loss vs the full 2 stops of loss. This could be a premium priced object going for $2000 but the accessory alone would shift sport togs over.

It would be WAY more than $2000 since the 70-200 f/2.8 IS mk2 goes for $2400 when not on sale.

A EF 17-55 f/2.8. I'd pay 2K for it and not care if it weighed more than the brick. It would be amazing.

I think the estimates on the price of these lenses is still way low. The new 500 f4 is $10,000, and the new 600 f4 is $13,000. Sure, f5.6 versions are going to be a heck of a lot cheaper, but not $3400 and $4200, respectively. Maybe more like $5k and $7k.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

You are probably right, my estimates track with the older Canon pricing.

On a good note, that might mean I have my weight estimates a touch too high.

Yes just the tele, I have no idea where the 1.8 could fall in to pricing

Asking for a 2X TC that does not cost two stops makes no sense. A 2X TC makes the focal length of the lens twice as long. The size of the lens maximum aperture doesn't change, so simple math shows that the f/stop (the ratio of the aperture to the focal length) must change by two stops.

Bashing a wish list because it makes no sense to you also makes no sense. It's a wish list some obviously would never fly and some will. While I understand the need to correct those trying to learn, I do not see the need to follow a discussion simply to poke holes at what some might like to see possible. Corrective or not if we all follow this mentality we should just be a 1 camera dog and pony show.
