Has anyone got experience of the various UK Canon authorised repair centres for lenses, any I should avoid etc - there seems to be a large variation in US. I have to send in my 13 month old 15-85 for a repair as the focus - both manual and auto - does not always respond to a turn of the ring

Why not send it in to Canon at Elstree?

Their service is top notch and turn around very quickly

I used H Lehmann in Stoke on Trent for a autofocus calibration and sensor clean opn my 40D. They were very helpful and gave me a call when it was ready which was a few days earlier than they said it would take. Hope this helps.

Good choice. Johnstones is closest to me but avoid them like the plague. I always send my stuff to Elstree and have no complaints at all.

Well, sent the lens off to Canon at Elstree (UK) on Friday 13'th(!!) and it was delivered back on Friday the 20'th - except I wasn't in so rescheduled the delivery for today
the invoice cost for adjustment of the A/F system and cleaning etc was £60 and £5 packaging/delivery charge which was all waived as a 'goodwill gesture'

the focus seems to pick up first again time now but I will have to check over the next few weeks

I see a lot of negative comments when people need to send lenses in for repair but I have nothing but praise for the branch I sent mine to, a very big 'thank you' Canon - you have one very satisfied customer

I've been impressed with the service from Canon Elstree too.

I've sent in my 40D for shutter assembly repair, which I had to pay for as it was out of warranty and my 7D to have its sensor replaced under warranty. Had both cameras back in a week working perfectly.

The Camera Repair Centre in Southborough (external link), near Tunbridge Wells is very good. Apparently they get sent all the repairs from shops all over the country. I've had good service from them.
