The CME isn't supposed to arrive for about an hour yet, but nobody told the aurora last night. Around 8:00pm CST last night (Monday the 23rd), the sky opened up. I grabbed the camera and headed out back.

Hopefully the skies are clear tonight, and the magnetosphere is still ringing from the impact about to happen.

WOW. I can only dream of what it would be like to witness this...in person. Living in Texas....this is just not one of those phenoms we see much around here. Nice captures.
Don't forget to wear a tinfoil hat. ;-)a

I use Canon gear...have several bodies and lenses and am quite pleased with them.

From spaceweather.com:

CME IMPACT: As expected, a CME hit Earth's magnetic field on Jan. 24th at approximately 1500 UT (10 am EST). Geomagnetic storms are likely in the hours ahead. If it's dark where you live, be alert for auroras.
