I'm thinking about having someone stand in front of me holding an umbrella and seeing how badly it would mess up the umbrella or if it would look cool seeing the sparks bounce off of it. Sort of adding a different dimension to this cool light painting technique. If anyone else cares to try, have at it. It'll be a couple of days before I can try it.

Since we are brainstorming, if you had a way to be above and just behind the person holding the umbrella, then frame the shot to where the spinner was not in the shot, it would look like spark-rain. Wet down the umbrella first maybe?

That's what I'm thinking too but still would be a cool shot, so long as the person holding the umbrella didn't get injured.

Unless you doused the umbrella in lighter fluid I doubt it would catch. But be careful just in case :P

Maybe to test and see if it would or wouldn't burn through but if it doesn't burn through the umbrella I'd like to see a person holding it at some point. There's so much you can do with that scenario.

Something tells me though, if it's burning glass on car windows then this probably isn't a good idea.

Keep in mind that steel wool can burn up to 3,100 °C, very similar to magnesium.

It can and will burn through just about anything if given enough time.
