I found my grandpa Helios 40 85mm/f1.5 and ordered adapter to EOS. i was surprised watching it go for 600$+ at ebay.
Which of old mounts lens you loved with eos dslr the most?
i'm interested in primes 20mm and wider and longer than 180mm as well.
i'd appreciate if you have comparison shots of mf and ef glass (similar focal length/aperture)

I am pretty impressed with my "new" glass recently and slowly loosing my interest on L glass. The Zeiss Contax T* 1.4/85 is very impressive, the contrast and vibrant are not comparable with any of the 85 lens from Canon or Sigma.

Nice find!

The Helios 40 is sought after because of its swirly bokeh. But the swirl effect is not on every picture, it is sometimes hard to get.
The lens is often used for portraiture, and for nature details.

I use the EE-S screen on the EOS 5D for the fast manuel lenses

Wider than 20mm would almost be considered exotic with vintage lenses. The Tokina 17/3.5 and Oly 17 are supposed to be real good. Then there's the C/Y 18/4 which is a bit of an under appreciated lens.

True, 18/4 is really quite an overlooked lens. People tends to have more interest with Flektogon 4/20 or OM 21mm f3.5.

MF isn't too hard, even to nail down 1.4 @ 85mm. I have ee-s screen with AF confirm chip to assist on focusing....

I have the Zeiss 18/4 (C/Y), it (my lens) needs some optimisation and mirror shaving to get infinity. I don´t own this lens for long, but it seems pretty good.

The Tokina 17/3.5 is not a much loved lens on the EOS 5D - for me. It has a super wide angle, and it is a cheap lens to get such. But the borders are not very sharp - at least that was my impression. For many images this is no problem!

The Canon FD 20/2.8 can be converted to EF mount - but not with EOS 5D and normal mirror - there it goes to ~3m distance, not more.

I have a m42 SMC Takumar 50mm f/1.4 for my 550D. Fantastic bokeh at f/1.4 and knife sharp by f/8.

This was shot at f/8.

I've also got a vintage Nikon 75-150 f/3.5 Ai-s lens but haven't really got the chance to properly put it to work yet.

MF is easy with the focus peak function in MagicLantern :).

I have a Zeiss Jena 35 f/2.8, very good lens. MFD is 18cm, from the pictures, I think it does 1:2ish macro.
Very sharp straight from f/2.8, low distortion, just don't point it to the sun.

A pen on a textbook. @35mm f/2.8
Not a great picture, but pretty much demonstrates what this lens can do.

It looks good on the macro. btw, how is this compare to the simblings like CZJ Flektogon 2
4/35 or Distagon 2.8/35?

I believe it shares same macro characteristics with the Flektogon 35 f/2.4, but not with the Distagon.

as soon as landscapes dont need autofocus, i'd like to have good manual glass 18-21mm
