Lowest of $948.88 at Jan 10, 2009 on Amazon.com which is a very reputable seller in USA. Unique photo once had this lens price mistake for $900 and then honored it.

Other than that, before Jul 2010, people got this lens for 20% Discount via Bing Cashback program from Microsoft at select retailers. I am sure people grabbed a few at 40% when Bing came with a bang on ebay purchases during first few days, but those were again exceptional circumstances.

The lowest I have seen for new is $900. I am sure somebody might have got it for tad lower that $900 which was sweet spot for a while.

Yeah, and that guy is nuts selling it right now with the rebates going on. ;)

I know someone who is sitting on one until the rebates go away.

As you look at prices online, just remember - if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

I paid $1250 in the fall. Of course prices have dropped quite a bit now to the ~$1000 range.

I've been watching CL as I might jump to IS and I'm seeing $950 to $1,000 depending on date code and condition.

That's more than they're going for here and on on FM. Since the rebates they've been offered regularly in the $850-900 range and last night one was sold here for $785.

Possibly so but I only buy from CL as I want to be able to test and use the lens before buying. Good negotiating points though.

Bought mine last fall used on CL in Canada for $950. Minor cosmetic nicks on the paint from wedding ring.

If you can wait, you're likely to find someone who needs some fast cash for one reason or another. Just be careful where you meet them.

To each his own. I buy my used gear here and on FM and am very diligent with who I deal with. Some of my favorite gear was bought here and on FM at a significant savings and without the hassle/danger of meeting strangers in relatively high dollar transactions.
