70-200mm F2.8 EX DG APOMacro HSM II Refurbished

Mount: Canon
$1,200.00 MSRP
$599.00 Outlet Price
#579101-R

is this still a good lens? any ideas why it was discontinued and there does not appear to be a replacement in that lenght/F combination on their site.

I was considering a 70-200 F4 canon but the 2.8 would help me out in the dim gyms.

It's a VERY good lens. Replaced by the new version with OS. The new version lacks the "macro" capabilities....you lose about 3 ft in close-focusing by getting the new OS version. But you gain OS which is very nice.

Here's a thread with samples. Start at the last page and work backwards since this thread started with the older version with the old finish while the lens you are looking at is the mk II.

For indoor sports, the Sigma HSM II would be far better than a Canon f4. At $599, that's an insanely good deal as they routinely go for more than that used.

Is it just me, or did their page stop working? The link in this thread doesn't load. From the main page, once you select a mount, a blank page loads: http://www.sigmaphoto.com/sigma-outlet-shop?PTID=4 (external link)

Seems to be down for the moment. As with all things internet, the solution is probably to try again in a few hours/tomorrow.

Looks like it's back up but the selection shrunk. Only 4 lenses now. I guess it's pretty popular. lol. I'm not one for the superzooms but that 18-200 for $209? I mean - I can see where it might fill a certain niche. That and the 70-300 for $179! Gee.

Damn. Went to the bank to move some money around for the 50-150 @ $559, but by the time I got home, it was gone. :(

I know this is an old thread, but does anyone have experience of buying from the outlet? The 90 day warranty does concern me.

Edit: Sorry I thought this was in Market Watch. I found it in search and misread.
