Maybe squirt a tiny bit of water in there and wiggle it around with a pen, but not while it's on obviously.

I would pull the battery and then put a little rubbing alcohol on an old toothbrush. Then just scrub-a-dub-dub that button for a while. If it comes loose great! Just let it dry for a while.

If not, trip to Canon may be in order.

Thanks guys, I talked to a local shop and he said they will need to take it a part for $140. Do you guys think this is better?

I would definitely try my method first. If you give it sufficient time to dry, it won't hurt the camera at all and will be free.

Infinitely better than some of the advice listed here. :p

Water?!?!?! WTF (just turning it off doesn't remove current in the body either)
Superglue? ?!?!?!?

Really, alcohol might* work, but where are you washing all the gunk that got it stuck in the first place? If the button really has that bad of a problem, it will probably need to be replaced anyway. Temp fixes are only temporary is most cases.

If it is some sort of sticky substance, the alcohol will most likely permanently take care of the problem. The residue won't have to go anywhere, the alcohol will take care of it. But you are right, if it is some solid substance like dirt holding it up, alcohol won't do much. Or if it some sort of mechanical problem with the button, it will have to be fixed. But my method will quickly clarify what is going on.

I would try this method with a couple of additional suggestions. Use a small artist's paint brush and just get a tiny bit of alcohol on the button, then turn the camera so the button is facing down and dab the button with a paper towel to draw the alcohol and the gunk out. Repeat, repeat and repeat the alcohol and paper towel.
It's worth a try.
