Took a trip to the local zoo yesterday, and got to play with my 100-400L:

Love them, however #5 and #8 are in a league of their own.

If you are going to use a super zoom to get in that close to an animal, then you should be getting "close" to the animal. Seeing something in the animal that you might not notice by just looking at it without the zoom power. Spectacular.

That rock definitly looks like it feels good to the lion, and the critter in #8 seems to have an opinion of that twig, but its a mystery as to what it is... does he like it, or not???
