Yes, you do. I bought one about two weeks ago and was pulling my hair out. I think I have some direction now. Check out THIS thread. A lot of good info in there on custom functions of the MkIII.

I have been experimenting with different function setups and saving them on my memory card to my computer. that way I can keep em all on a smallish SD card for easy retrieval of settings.

I have a tax return to spend, and it's burning a hole in my pocket! Should I just jump in right now? I was hoping to get a 1Diii for closer to the ~1500 price point after the 5diii is announced, and the 1D-X ships. First world problems

Up close and personal, shooting dolphins in the wild... Must've been about 30 feet from this dolphin while it breached for air...

Thanks, I'll take a look at that - today I tried chucking the ball about for the dog and missed quite a few shots, that and I keep on pressing AF-ON (I think) and it stops autofocusing - just a setting no doubt but annoying today.

John - have you got got it set on AIServo?

If so keep the AF-ON button depressed.

Have a read of this for some settings

How come Canon USA can;t leave the PDF's available, but Canada and Europe can? I went through some old threads and the us link just went to the main front page.

They usually do. If you go through to the product page, then find what item you are looking for, say the 1D Mark III, towards the bottom there should be some tabs, one might say manuals and documentation, or something like that. There you should find the PDF files for the manual, and other junk too.
