I'm looking for a better way to carry my heavier setup. I like the idea of the belt mounted system vs. a strap system but I cannot find a picture or video that shows someone using the Spider Pro system attached to the lens collar tripod mount instead of the body mount. I have a lot more trust in the long term durability of the collar mount and would prefer to carry it from that point but it seems nobody does it that way, does it not balance well there? If you have one would you post a pic showing how it hangs from that mounting point?

Thanks!

Chris

the connector to the camera is a ball mount, so from the design of the holster it should hang the same way if you use the lens tripod ring
you might have to change the position of the holster as you may find the body too far behind you.

Watch the video of the introduction to the spider holster from spider holster. I think that's a 70-200 in the video.

Yes that looked like it might be a 70-200 2.8, but my question was how it hangs when hung from the lens collar tripod mount. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I just don't like the idea of my camera swinging a big lens while being supported by the lightest part.

Like this.

1d mkiii with 70-200 is mk ii
Works but not nearly as well as using the plate on the body.

You did not mention which body you are using. With my old 20d I just put the ball on the body with no plate

Btw
I hate hand holding with the collar on so the plate offers another plus for me.

Sorry for the crappy self taken phone images.

I have hung mine by both the tripod collar and the camera tripod hole for use with my Spider pro (dual) belt. I prefer the way that it hangs from the camera tripod hole. The angle is easier to take on and off.

SPK64, thanks thats what I was looking for. My combo is a 60D+grip and 70-200 2.8 is mkii. Since its not a pro-grade body I'm concerned about the weight of the 70-200. Its one of those things that probably won't fail, but if it did it could be quite costly. It looks like mounting it on the body mount would angle it slightly lens down against the back of your leg and somewhat restrict its movement. (SPK64, sempaidavid) Does it wobble a lot when you have it on the lens collar when walking at a normal commuting pace?

It feels about the same with out a lot of movement while walking. Running or a fast pace walk the movement increases. I will either carry or hold my hand to steady.

Spider system does make it nice with the 70-200 or smaller lens. I will use it on a regular basis at events.

Would the Spider Pro look outta place on, say, "vacation" or would the Black Widow work out better or not at all?

I would be carrying a 5DII and 35L and Sigma 85 F/1.4.

IMO, they would look similar. I would go with the better weight capacity of the spiderpro, Just in case. I tend to like my stuff overbuilt though. Out of place? I think people would think it was a good idea.

I swear by my Spider Holster Pro. Not using the tripod ring and never had a problem.
