We've had Autumn weather and no Winter. Until last week when suddenly the mild weather was replaced by the coldest temperatures since the 1950s. And boy is it cold! But two days ago I ventured out to look for some birds. Found them.

The world was covered in snow and the sky was full of it too, threatening to spill more, so light was dull, colours are muted and there's not much detail in the birds. But I like the shots anyway and I hope you do too.

Thank you for looking.

Those are very nice, #1 especially. Snow/ice on the feet says it all.

Well done Lil, especially number 1, great detail and light. I have read about your cold weather, hope you don't get the worst of it there, hope you stay warm!

Great shots Levina. They really are unusual to see the Heron with snow. And seeing snow or ice on the feet too. Brrr.

Really well done Levina! Its funny seeing them in the snow. Around here they hightail it out of town when the weather starts getting cold.

Thanks very much, Joe. Yes, I think we're having the same cold wave. And it's here to stay for another week. Or so the forecast is.

Thanks so much, Mike! I like that one too. I think he looks so vulnerable in all that white.

Why thank you, Brad! ;) But yes, the weather is really bad right now. We had -18 in Amsterdam last night. That is minus 18 degrees Celcius. That is really cold... I am staying warm though! :)

Thank you Fee. You know, the snow helped here. Did you notice how the underside of the wings in the first shot is perfectly exposed? *I* had little to do with that. It's the light-reflecting snow. Great, innit? And it worked on all of them. Like a super beamer! :)

Hi Dave. Thanks very much!
Home is Amsterdam. I live in the eastern part of the city, very close to Flevopark, the Harbours, open water etc. I don't know Leiden very well, but it has a renowned university. Almost decided to do my studies there, but in the end chose to do them right here. :) Thanks again, Dave.

Thanks very much, Don and Craig. Yes, ours stay for the Winter, but I'm sure they're not real happy with the cold and snow!! :)
