i think both you guys are such strong members that light set up info should be included in the post.. the responsibility and stewardship of being such a strong member of this forum..

Sure thing, I'd be happy to post my strobist info/EXIF data. I just thought by now, everyone would know that its always available on my flickr page...or can be told by simply asking :-)

more senior stuff

simple senior set up

dad helped with the flying tie, (the tie is going to worry me for printing, that Moiré pattern is going to show up for sure, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moir%C3%A9_pattern (external link) , i am going to have to blur it out a little before print order.. )

lighting info:

key light , strip box 24x48 inch gridded camera right about 4 feet away

hair light boomed camera left about 3 feet with 42 inch softlighter

it took us about 7 tries to get good timing and cool tie motion..

always a pleasure seeing your stuff Pham
Bailing wire and fishing string is always handy in a camera bag.:)

@ Phil, you always turn out great stuff, and very consistent with your work.. you have any goals this year you want to share with us?

thank you Pham. For goals... keep on learning, challenge myself more, network my butt off, focus on quality client service, and hopefully open a professional studio this year....AND... always have fun.

Today, I broke out the AB800, and the Fotodiox 60" (150cm) octo box and my new seamless setup. . I was shooting some pictures for a neighbor. The lighting setup was the same for all photos. AB800 in the Octobox at 1/16th power, camera right. Canon 430EXII at 1/4 power in a Qbox 24 camera left.

Here are a couple...

Hey Scott,

How in the world did you keep catch lights in her eyes with this hat on?! It almost looks like you have a gridded flash coming in straight on, but it's only covering her nose and down? An over head strip box or something would be cut off by the hat and it doesn't appear to be showing on the brim. And the side/kicker lighting appears to be more from behind than in front. My only guess would be reflector but I didn't think a reflector could hold a catch light like that? Either way, sweet shot!

^ That's pretty cool... Rarely do you see any fencing captures in these parts!!! Would've loved to see the entire person on the left of the frame, but this will do nicely...

:D

Some self Peter-Hurley-Style(minus the awesome looks he's able to get out of his subjects) head shots I took Saturday. I needed headshots for linkedin and though I'd give it shot.
Lighting info: I shot this with a AB800 + 47" Octobox as a backdrop. Got the idea from the forum here!
Lit with a Nikon SB28 + beauty dish on camera right.

Camera Info:
Canon 50D tethered.
Canon 50mm 1.8
1/200
f5

Some observations:
A. Focusing is really hard when doing self portraits
B. You don't need user nice gear to get nice looking shots
C. An extra pair of hands for a reflector would be nice.
