It sounds like a great camera but I would reserve judgement until we get to see some high-res pics, esp at higher ISOs. 36 MPs is a lot to cram into a sensor of that size!

Not really - it has roughly the same pixel density as the 50D and less than the 7D or 60D, and is only marginally denser than the medium-format Phase One iq180.

Yeah, 36MP was THE right choice. Booo Canon if they don't match this.

and the new 5d3 will have 9 AF points with the center being a cross type and now with "51 invisible" assist af points for the center!!!! yessss!!!!! and with the t3i outer AF points!

no but seriously the new 5d will need to have at least the 1d 45 point AF.

the 7d AF will not cut it anymore... maybe something in between the 7d AF and 1d AF.

Maybe it's time for Canon to bring out the 120MP sensor they produced a while back... and don't put an AA filter in front of it!

Well as a sports and fast action photographer, this is a total meh. 4 frames per second, woohoo. You huge MP lovers can have it! I will enjoy buying your Canon stuff for cheap! :)

Well, between the D4 and the D800, it looks like Nikon has both bases covered!

If the 5D3 turns out to be a low (relatively) megapixel, high-ISO, high frame rate machine (essentially a cut-down 1Dx), that leaves Canon only covering one of its bases.

Besides, even when Nikon launched the D700 a few years ago, it didn't just release a cut-down D3 with inferior weather sealing, inferior AF, etc., like the current suggestion of the 5D3 simply being a cut-down 1Dx - it was the equal of the D3 in almost every respect.

Well it's at 6fps in crop mode at 16mpx. If 6 fps isn't enough for sports than either people spray and pray too much or I'm just too dumb to understand...
