I guess one lens is finally here.... :D (sans IS of course).

I hope more specs, pricing, and availability follow soon. A new body announcement would be nice as well!

Update:

The EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM lens is expected to be available in April for an approximate retail price of $2,299.00.

The EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM lens is expected to be available in June for an approximate retail price of $849.99, while the EF 28mm f/2.8 IS USM lens is expected to be available in June for an approximate retail price of $799.99.

So Canon puts IS in the 24mm prime, but not the 24-70 II. wtf? Seems backwards to me.

This is so bizarre. I kind of love the idea of cute little 24 and 28 IS lenses, but what on earth are they for? Using on crops? Maybe they will just be great little cheap lenses with fabulous IQ.

At $850 and $800 that is hardly the case.

I still don't see the point for this IS primes. Apart video. But is video that important to justify two new lens? Specially so close in range?

Oh and 2299$ for the 24-70 mkII. I hope it'll be as amazing as the 70-200mkII.

As many here, I'm quite confused by the 24 and 28mm primes. I thought the 2.8 primes pretty much represented a thing of the past. What's especially odd is that they have IS, which is nice to have, but let's face it, not the most useful lenses to gain IS.
I'd like a 24 or 28mm f/2 prime, or maybe a 2.8 if it was a pancake and ridiculously sharp wide open.
But there's now so many lenses that include the 24-28mm focal length that I don't see that much of an advantage to it.

Some of my lenses focus beyond infinity...!

I'm curious to see if Canon tweaked the MF mechanics at all to make the throw less drastic and therefore easier to use for video...

It seems that reverse zoom is omitted in version II. It's the only thing that makes me want a 24-70 more than a 17-55/24-105.
With 1000$ steeper price and no IS, wth are you doing canon?

Somebody at Canon in the pricing department has been hitting the whiskey a little too hard if they think those prices are logical. That better be MSRP with a 200-300 lower street price.

Personally, I dont care if the new Canon 24-70 F/2.8L II (external link) has Image Stabilization or not... The 1st version is an awesome glass and I do hope the II will be even better!!

good thing I waited for this... I dropped my 24-70 over the holidays but decided to wait.. i am just glad the rumors turned out to be real! :)

given this tech fail, and price adjustment, and then the D800 announced with 36mp, Canon had better have a hell of a good announcement on the next 5D release to keep people.
