I'll be looking foward to the release of this lens. 3rd party manufacturers usually help keep prices in line, but after reading todays announcement from Canon, I may be wrong! lol

Sony still offers the most compelling solution: IN body stabilization at the sensor...

So, this lens becomes a great alternative to the zeiss 24-70mm F2.8 SSM.

but all of sony's lenses are stabilized :)

anyone up for a zeiss image stabilized 135mm F1.8? I sure am.

Ohh, and a zeiss 24mm F2? stabilized? yeah count me in again.

If i didn't have the 70-200mm IS2, Id have an A900.

Canon still has a better 50mm... which is my preferred focal length equivalent. (shakes fist)

Very excited! Should I get this or the 100L first.... Mmmmm decisions! Have a few months to decide before I can get the 100L anyway, hopefully we will know release dates and costs for this by then.

It will almost certainly be far cheaper than Canon's non-IS 24-70. I'm betting on a street price of around $2k on the Canon version and this one (if reasonably sharp wide open) would be a steal at $1200.

It came back as 2300.00 dollars USD for the mk2.... I imagine depending on how proud Tamron is of this lens, it might come back at 1400.00. < Totally just a guess there, but it is really going to depend on how good this lens actually is. If it has near the image quality of the Canon mk1 then I think it's going to sell well. If it comes back with average image quality then we can all expect the roaches to scatter from the Tamron, and head to the Canon mk2.

I'm not too worried about it either way because I have the 17-50 non VC, and it has really good image quality and in a range that is useful on my APS-C sensor size. I would however like to see Tamron develop a 40-125mm VC model just for APS-C... It's just a dream....

Yep, preorder at B&H for $2300. What a joke. I'm sorry but this is just Canon figuring they have enough brand fanboys to bend over. Nearly double the cost of the current version, there just isn't any justification for this.

I'll probably get this lens. The new Canon 24-70 is a joke. Tamron has impressed me with IQ in the past.

I'll be extremely interested to see how it compares to the 27-70 2.8 L II. Might make my choice between the 24-105 and the 24-70 a little bit harder...

I'd say 6-12 weeks from what I've seen so far. When you see an actual image of a lens even if it's a pre-production copy they're pretty far along in the process.
