As a long time Canon fan, the current D800 announcement has me really rethink if I should give Nikon a try but I’m still hoping and very patiently waiting for Canon to announce the next 5D II upgrade. (A lot of the features points to a great landscape / portrait body)

So, how many of you current Canon owners switching before Canon’s announcement?

Just so we avoid sample bias, my answer is:

Not switching.

at the current state without the 5d3 swaying my choice im at about an 80% of switching. 20% of me not wanting to switch because i have so much gear

I have a 7D at work and just recently bought a 16-35L II lens in preparation for purchasing a 5DII or the 5DIII but was waiting on the release of the 5DIII to make that decision. My new lens gets delivered from B&H on Wednesday and now the 30 day countdown to return it starts.

Hopefully Canon releases something comparable to the D800 and if so I'll be staying on this side, other wise it's back to B&H with the lens and mixing the 7D with a new D800.

A question to all those who have been in the DSLR market for at least six-seven years.... Looking back objectively at the full frame market between Canon & Nikon has there ever been a time when one companies product completely outclassed and outperformed it's direct competitor from the opposing lineup? I know one camera might have way more MP than the other but it seems that you have pros & cons on every body and I'm just curious if when comparing the whole package objectively if either company has truly ever completely and totally dropped the ball? From my limited 2-3 year experience in the market it doesn't seem that way and if that's the case it would stand to reason that the 5DIII should be able to compete with the D800.

Perhaps Canon isn't leaking anything because they are extremely confident in the successor?

I am waiting for the 5D3. If it fails to deliver, then I can just get the 1DX and be happy for sure.

I dont care about high MP count.

So far the D800 is the camera I wish canon would make so I can upgrade.

If canon dont make one very very similar I will buy the nikon. I may stay with canon also or sell up.

I already sold all of my Canon specific gear and have a D4 and D800 on order. Been slowly purchasing my Nikon glass.

I'm starting to seriously consider D800 now. Planning to see if I can sell all my gear and shift over. Tempting. Very tempting!

Waiting for both cameras to be released and extensivly tested by the public before making any decisions. For me ISO performance is what matters most. The D800 seems more suited to the studio and landscape stuff, but its not going to be the best wedding camera.

It will be within half a stop of the D4 for high ISO. and better than the D700.
