I was actually thinking I'd leave the 5D2 at home and bring something smaller... I am worried about safety and theft. A friend of a student we sent to CBB got his camera stolen after he was forced to put it in checked in luggage at the airport in La Paz... The student himself got his wallet stolen... What is your opinion?
I will be going to CBB a few times in the next years, so I will have a chance to take the 5D2 next time if I feel safe...

Well, Sebastien, there's theft anywhere there's poverty, here certainly being no exception. I've lived here for only about two months, and I spend my time out on the streets, day and night. I've YET to have anybody attempt to victimize me in any way, but at the same time, I'm not a small guy (particularly by local standards), so nobody's singling me out as an obvious mark either, if you catch my drift. I'd recommend bringing a lesser rig. This place has so much visual to offer, you could dazzle with a Kodak disposable!! :-)

Everything I've posted on here I shot with a Canon Elph SD1400Is - $239. None of my images is 'technically astute' but then again, they don't really have to be either. They tell the story.

Nice shots, brings back memories.

I remember when I arrived at the city, I grabbed a cab from the bus terminal to get to my hostel (it was late in the evening). The drive was about 35 minutes and the cabbie charged me accordingly.

A few days later when exploring the city, I happened to stumble across the bus station which was in reality about a 10 minute walk from the hostel!

OMG - what a crock!! But yeah, that happens here a lot.
normally you have to get them to agree to a fare based on the destination (not the time) before getting in, and it's seldom over about Bs. 12,00 (for two people).

Hi Sopenco! I finally took my 5D2 to Cochabamba without problem. I was only told not to take it at night and I decided not to take it to La Cancha. We were in districts 9 and 14 but were accompanied by locals. I posted some photos here https://photography-on-the.net …6489&highlight=cochabamba
