does this mean they're shifting the sensor from 3x2 to 16x9? Or is it just the preview screen?

If it's just the screen, why bother?

Doesn't mean either. That speculation is an "error of viewing angle" of the forementioned photograph.

I said this in another thread, but wanted to share it here too:

Hey did everyone see the new post on CR this morning? He's expecting a 40MP body. That got me thinking, what if the 22MP camera is a new kind of 7D? It would make sense to bump the 7D to 22MP, give it pro-focus, 7FPS, it would be the sports/action body for those who can't afford the 1DX, or just like a smaller form factor. In fact, the mystery camera that showed up in Africa sure looked like a 7D. It would be full frame, expensive, and frankly, sell really well.

Now comes the fun part, the new 5D is 40MP. Maybe, just maybe, shoots 4K video... As far fetched as this sounds, you have to admit it's quite logical and would be good business, i.e. allow Canon to maintain market share.

D800, D700, MB D10, 85 1.4G, 70-200 2.8G VR II, 16-35 f4G VR II, 60 2.8G Micro, SB 910 (x4), SB 900, Radio Popper PX Trans (x2), Radio Popper PX Rec (x3)

40mp??s CR says it won't be the 5D3.

Let's see, the 36mp Nikon produces a 206 mb file. That'd be around a 228 mb file if CR is correct.

Considering the 24-70 2.8L II was just announced, they definitely aren't perfect.
