For those who upgrade/d from 7D to 5D2

I've been thinking about this for couple of months now, selling my 7D+10-22 to fund a 5dm2. For those POTN who jumped from 7D to 5D2, what are your thoughts...

I jumped from a 50D to a 5D - best move I've made.

I kept the 7D after I got my 5D Mark II. I like them both for different reasons. I'd say that if you are going to ditch the 7D, you'll miss the nice shooting experience of it (better features, more fun to shoot with); but the 5D Mark II produces images that are more fun to process (more dynamic range, less noise, more leeway for cropping). When I need the features of the 7D, I'm very happy to have it and really enjoy shooting with it; it's a very fun and capable camera. The 5D Mark II feels a bit outdated by comparison, but its image quality is noticeably better, so I use it most of the time.

I own both the 7D and 5D2. The 5D2 captures far better quality images with much less noise. The 7D has better AF and other nice features. I think the 7D is by far the best crop sensor body out there and I enjoy having both bodies.

What are you shooting? If you are not into sports, birds or any other fast paced stuff, then the 5D II will be a much better camera for you. I have them both and only use the 7D for birding and other wildlife. The noise at anything higher than ISO400 with the 7D is very frustrating to me.

Do you need the AF focus of the 7D? If you do and also want better IQ, think about a 1Div. If you don't 5Dii can't go wrong!

That's an easy decision for you - get the 5D MKII or wait what the new MKIII has to offer. A cropper does not bring you any additional value over the 5D cameras!

I'm considering selling my Canon gear soon, the 5D MK II would be in that list. If you are looking for a good deal, I'm sure we can work one. I've been extremely anal with my gear.

1. Value may not be the term you are looking for since value is a factor of price....Croppers are less expensive.....

2. The current crop bodies do have features not on 5D/ii's.....so technically, only the crop sensor does not give anything over a FF sensor, however, there are proponents of getting more pixels on the subject (the Reach argument).....

Even so, I like FF better.

hahaha...good point! It just means I've been very careful with it. No drops, no scuffs, etc...its gotten use, but not abused, etc...thats all. Thanks for making it look bad though!

I sold my 7D & 10-22 to fund the 5D2.

i do miss the 7D though but for what i shoot, the 5D2 is a better camera for me. the 7D is definately a much newer camera and you'll notice that the moment you start using the 5D2.

i just couldn't justify keeping the 7D in the end but i did think of keeping them both to 'double up' my lenses

for what you're shooting, i'm thinking you'll love the 5D2, especially with the price of the 5D2 right now.

Considering a Nikon switch, considering being key. Don't want to thread jack, but that is why I would be selling, here to reinforce that the 5D2 is a bad to the bone camera. Love it love it love it.
