Last July I attended a Red Sox home game at Fenway. Our seats were on the roof level, halfway between first base and the home run pole. The speed of the action required shooting at 1/1024 second. It was an evening game under the lights, so I had to shoot at ISO 1600 in order to get good exposure at f/5.6.

This first shot shows Jacoby Ellsbury hitting a home run. The ball actually hit the home run pole. Of all the shots I took, this was the only one where I captured the ball on the bat. The original image has been cropped about 50%. I was about 250 feet away from home plate.

Later in the game, Josh Reddick tracked down a fly ball in right field. This one was shot at ISO 3200 using 1/640 sec, hence the graininess. Overall, I'm pleased with the quality of both these shots given the level of light and the speed of the action.

Great shots even if they are of Boston... :) they will not let people into our Angels stadium with any telephoto lens.

Yeah, that's really something. You can see from that angle why there is a trend toward aircraft with composite surfaces. You caught just the right angle. Nice work.

Please help me identify this beautiful black bird. It is small in size with a long forked tail. I see it around the grass lands near the lake. It perches on small bushes and flies short distances to catch insects (I think so). It is almost vertical when perched on the bush, or on the edge of the wall, and can turn its neck around by almost 180 degrees on either side.
Here are some pictures (all from this useful lens). I am not an expert on bird photography or in using this lens. The 100-400mm L did enable me to take pictures which were earlier not possible using my 70-200mm f/4 IS L with a 1.4x extender.

My error - I apologize. I've relocated appropriately. Thank you.

I'm not offended. It's an excellent shot and very sharp. I was just looking to see what aperture was used and saw f/3.2.

From this picture it looks like a grackle. YMMV.
