I'm in the market for a filter holder and GND filters for landscape and time-lapse photography. I don't know a whole lot about these filters and holders, but I do know the Lee filter is too pricey for my budget.

That puts me in the market for a Cokin Z-Pro and X-Pro holder. I know the Z-Pro is slightly smaller, takes 4x6 filters, and is able to use Lee and HiTech filters as well. The X-Pro is larger at 5x7 and only takes Cokin filters which may not be best for future proofing.

Does the Z-Pro vignette a 14mm and 16-35mm on full frame? Any suggestions on which holder to get?

Z-Pro holder does vignette at 20mm prime but it can stay firmly on top of lens without worrying about dropping it.

Lee holder doesn't have vignette at 17mm end of 17-40mm, however, you have to be careful when you carrying your camera around with LEE holder on top of your lens. I don't have 16-35mm, so I can't say.

X-Pro requires larger GND filters, so it means more expensive than 4x6" and it's hard to find.

If you stack GND filters, I don't recommend Hitech but LEE or Singh Ray. If don't stack them, Hitech just fine.

If you'll CPL along with your GNDs, I personally like Z-Pro better than LEE.

Thanks for the information David. I'm not really interested in the Lee holder. What I'm trying to get to is, will the larger filter size and the reduced availability of other brands limit my use of the Cokin X-Pro?

Cokin X pro holder: $90
Cokin X pro adapter ring 82mm: $75
Cokin X pro 4x GND: $93

Lee foundation kit holder:$85
Lee 82mm WA adapter ring: $60
Lee 0.6 hard GND filter: $95

Your reason for not going Lee is the price. Yet you're considering the X pro over Lee?

And yes, going X pro will limit you in terms of filters.

You're not looking very hard then! Sure its backordered, but those are the prices from all major retailers.

Alternatively, there's century optics; rebranded Lee, which is cheaper and otherwise identical, and most importantly, available.

Only downside with century optics is that you must buy the holder with a 77mm WA adapter ring but you can always just sell that off later or use it on another lens.
