What do you think the price of the 5D Mark III is going to be?

I say the MSRP will be $3299 given Canon's tendency to increase prices lately.

PS I made a typo the poll should say Mark III haha.....oh well I'm not sure how to edit it.

I was hoping for that too, but it seems like they don't care how much Nikon charges they don't mind bumping up the price. I guess they assume people are normally reluctant to jump ship due to the large investment in lenses and equipment this hobby/business requires.

Either way, unless I fall into some money I doubt I would upgrade until a year or two after it's been out and the prices drop/rebates start rolling in. I only bought my 5D2 about a year and a half ago and I honestly don't know what else I could want out of a camera right now. Higher native ISO would be nice...MAYBE better focusing, but I haven't felt that hindered by the 5D2's "bad" AF.

Since the 5D3 probably will be a bit (or perhaps even alot) weaker than the D800, it should also come at a cheaper price.

price increase? i thought the price had been coming down . Release price of original 5D was 3299, 5D2 was 2799...even their flagship camera is supposedly offered at a lower price.

It should, but it won't.

I agree. Aren't people saying the 1DX might be something like 7k?

I would think pricing the 5D lower would draw more prosumers in who will then shell out $$$ for L lenses. Maybe not, who am I to say.

It will probably be around 3000 for the first month or two, then it will drop down to the 5dMKII price.

I read the last option in that voice.

I know that's sad. You don't have to tell me.

If it is as good as the d800 = same price.
Better than the d800 = higher price.
Worse than d800 = lower price.

There's no way it'll be better than the D800. That would put it squarely into 1D series territory. There's no way Canon will put a $3k camera up there.

It's also highly unlikely that it'll be as good as the D800. That would mean it would have to have 1D series autofocus, which is something Canon has never put into "lesser" cameras.

That means it'll almost certainly be worse than the D800. But will it have a lower price? I think that's unlikely. I think it's likely that Canon will charge a higher price for an inferior camera because they can. Even if Canon makes no changes to the autofocus system at all, 5D2 shooters will snatch it up as long as the image quality is improved in any way over the 5D2's, because 5D2 shooters are already "happy" with the 5D2's autofocus system (see the numerous threads on this for proof) and claim they don't "need" anything more capable in that respect. Canon will happily oblige them with another mediocre offering, because mediocrity in everything but image quality seems to be just fine for those people, and there are apparently enough of them to make a decent market.

^ I totally agree! I swear, my blood pressure rises 10fold every time I hear someone saying that the 5D series AF is good, or that they can't understand why others are complaining so much about it.

Makes me want to slap slap slap.

I've thought about switching over to the d800 just for the AF...
