Hi guys, I have the following lenses and seeking advice to why people decided to grab 35L and 135L in the mist of the lenses I have:

Rokinon 8mm, 16-35 2.8L IS, 28-70 (old model), Canon 50 1.4, Sigma 85, 70-200 f4L IS - still trying to get used to FF but so far I think my lens collection is do-able? I didn't want a 50L if anyone is saying I should get that, I think 50 1.4 is more than enough for anything I need. Is my kit redundant?

Well Vixen, the trinity is 35/85/135. Or 24/50/85 depending on your shooting styles/desired look. Im on the fence currently about the 50L as Ive always loved the 50mm FL on FF. 35mm is just a tad wide IMO, yet not wide enough. You have a good zoom setup which I followed on the 60d thread. But if your considering going all primes like I have (except for the 70-200 and 17-40) then IMO the L lenses are worth every penny. The 35L is a very sharp lens with great AF, just not sure if I enjoy the FL.

LIke my post says... the 70-200 F4L is great on the FF. I am able to do full body portraits from about 13-15 feet from the model, and able to zoom in close like the post above from the same spot.. I also have the Tamron 28-75/F2.8, but for my studio shoots at F8, I have not needed it.. Your lens line up looks good for a variety of situations including low light.

Well can I tell yah Andrew, I am in love with bokeh bokeh bokeh! I was reading around and people complained that the 35L bokeh is not the same as the 50/85/135 or higher FL so I was quite pleased to hear that I won't be making a bad choice there with my 50 1.4. I tried shooting around with my 16-35 stuck at 35mm and had to get super close to my friends ...was kinda freaking them out that I had to be close but that could be my UWA doing it's weird effect and the fact you have to get in close for anything upfront. I'm in the same boat, I don't think 35L is good for portraits like the other lenses but it does have f/1.4 which none of my other lenses have in such a short FL. I believe is a 135L is a real gem though, that thread just delivers too much and hits hard.

You are right for indoor studio setups...I rarely need to open wide all the way on the lenses ..most of my shots at f/11 too or so. 35L is probably not necessary and not an ideal indoor studio lens, but it does help I guess in my small home. Guess I will have to just accept it and get a 35L and 135L too.

nice work.. i also own the 70-200 f4 L and have yet to try it.. id like to use this lens as an ut door lens and the 24-70L for indoor..
