I've recently sold my 50D and wanted to get a new body, long story short, I have trouble deciding on these two options -

Get a 5D and use a nifty fifty until I can afford a Sigma 50mm, or get a 40D for fairly cheap and have about 7 hundred dollars leftover for some good glass.

Thanks.

Budget is exactly 1000, and I have a nifty fifty.

^^^ what Jase said, and how much money do you have coming in - i.e., how long would you have to shoot with one lens before you could add more glass?

I like to push buttons on thingies that take pictures. Sometimes I like to push other buttons, too.

I would get the 5D its much better camera than the 40D. Yes you are limited to the nifty fifty for now but that doesn't mean that you can upgrade your lenses later on. Im curious, why do you want to get the simga 50mm???

I'm a college student, so not much money coming in, and I typically shot my architectural models as I'm studying architecture, and perhaps some portrait at times, and my friends have suggested the Sigma 50mm stating that it's an excellent lens on full-frame for general purposes.

I would think the 5D would better suit your Architectural photography needs. The 40d is going to magnify whatever you are shooting. You can get more in the frame using the 5D and the nifty.

I have heard great things about the Sigma 50mm too. That's next on my list, once I recover from purchasing my 5d2 and 24mm-105mm kit lens.....

Get a 5d. Used bodies can be had for 700-800 if you are a little patient.

Thanks for all the feedback, I guess I'll go with the 5D, I've found a local meetup for about 800 bucks, condition is supposedly great. I'll update once I get my hands on it.

Why this thread, your profile says you have a Canon EOS 5D and Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 MK II?

If you did go the 5D and 50 you made the right choice.

If you decide on the full frame body, I'd do some careful research yourself on lens focal lengths before spending hard to come by cash on a 50mm prime.

Back in the days of film it was common for 35mm users to go as far as 80mm as a "normal" lens. I use a 24-70mm zoom as my walk-about with my 5D2 and its very often fully at the 70mm end of the range.

...

In his original post, he said he already had a 50mm lens.

ETA: Between then and now, his sig had changed to include the 5D.
