Canon 5D Mark III Rumors

Not buying. It costs more than the D800 and has lower specs. Is it fully weather-sealed or not?

Waiting for an announcement of a higher-resolution model.

As it stands, the 5D2 and 1Ds3 have no real replacement among the Canon lineup. The new camera is a general-purpose model which doesn't really excel at anything.

You'd spend more than $500 converting lenses.

Why does it need to be $3500? Nikon is offering a similarly compelling package for less...

Irrespective of the D800 pricing - the new 5D offers much more over the 5DII - it would make sense for it be more expensive. Let's wait until we hear it from the horse's mouth - hopefully next week.

Its a trend Canon seems to be on lately, Everything they're doing as of late is MASSIVELY expensive or pandering to video shooters.... When was the last time Canon made something that wasnt a piece of **** and didnt cost over $1000? I think the 7D was the last time...

Even at a "street" price of $3199 thats a hundred less than the D800E which will kick its ass in terms of resolving power...

Given the D800 does really well at high ISO (Better than the D700 at a per pixel level... its usable at 12,800 FFS!) that is very worrying....

Depends what else is included in the package, but the price is a touch high when lined up against the D800. 5 more days and we'll all know the full spec sheet. Exciting times!

Hmm. Anyone else find it weird that we'd get details such as the fps, or the 100%VF, yet they can't also get the actual name?

I mean, if this was months before the release, you could argue that the name is still in flux, etc.. but with an impending launch date a week away, these things are already made, sitting in boxes with their name printed on them, etc..

To me, it seems like they don't want to get the name wrong, so they're deliberately leaving that part out, while they're making the rest up with the more acceptable understanding that the model may have been pre-release, the numbers changed slightly, etc...

I just don't think I believe this very much. Yes, the 5D3 might be around the corner, but I don't think these rumor sites have any real credible information.

Unless there really are TWO 5D's floating around that have the same specs on paper, but one is tailored heavily towards DSLR video at the $3500 price and the other is $3000 and is lacking some things

IE, the DSLR video one, the 5DX or whatever, has the triple sampling or whatever and uncompressed HDMI whereas the 5DIII doesnt

Btw, I don't know why I'm getting so excited already. The new 5D wont be avalible until end of summer anyway. :P

I meant lenses more specifically, but the 7D/15-85/18-135/100L announcement was the last time i think Canon actually delivered some good lenses that werent $2500....

Seems like this is turning into yet another Canon vs Nikon thread.

History will repeat itself over and over. One brand will come out with the "best" camera that most people won't be able to afford anyway, then a few years later the other brand will be on top once again, and so on and so on.

Well, about the price:

3500$ --> 2600€. Not too bad. But I don't think so...

The rest, let's just wait and see.

I'm excited since I want to move to a FF camera and I don't need a camera with 36+ megapixels.

However, If Canon were smart, they would price the new 5D lower than the Nikon D800. I think that price will be one of the main reasons why people jump ship especially since the D800 is packed with a ton of features. I can't see how Canon can release a camera that might not be up to par with the D800 specs, and is make it more expensive??? Doesn't make one bit of sense. But hey, what do I know?

I don't see anything there that would make it worth it for me to convert to Nikon, given the very high cost of converting all of my lenses to Nikon equivalents, and then getting 3 Nikon bodies.
