So most of you are pleased even though the major upgrade is only AF ???? For $3500 surely there must be a feature they are holding out on until the official announcement. Because as it stand now, the 5d III is not worth $500 more than the D800

Out of the four lines of text, one is a "major" upgrade spec. (I'd argue two, but w/e) Let's wait to see something more substantial than MP, AF points, FPS and price before we decide what is worth what...

Nobody has announced anything... These specs are completely poppycock at this point.

Btw your price argument doesnt hold much water for people who heavily invested in Canon stuff. Even if the D800 specs are better, Canon people will buy Canon products.

How DARE you?! He gave it a CR3.

I like the specs. I don't like the price. But I already bought more than I was ready for with the 5Dii, so I'm gonna keep it til the 5Diii gets a little more affordable.

It's a shame the forum parsed the "url" or it would be easier to see that that link was just a goof. ;) (DarthVadder adjusted it in his quote to get around the unfortunate parsing...)

On topic (more or less), this is going to be a loooong 6 days around here.

I wonder if there will be a 5DII E without AA-filter. Like the D800 E..

Need to see why they may claim best video in a DSLR. I'm guessing there is something to this and pro videographers will go gaga for it.

I figured both of those points are a given by now.... My question was to all the people that said that they will buy one based on the current non official specs.

Canon had better be worried now. Look at the ISO samples from the D800. ;)

Wow, this thread blew up after the CR3 post. Welcome, everybody!

I will be upgrading for better AF, better ISO, and hopefully better DR.

I'll be very excited if all 3 of those are true. Speaking of DR, how about fixing the shadow pattern noise while you're at it, hmm?

5DII auto focus has ruined too many shots for me. There have been hundreds of times when I did everything right to get a perfect shot, but failed only because AF failed me.

P.S.
Using the outer focus points on the 5DII under anything but ideal lighting conditions, is like playing the wheel of fortune.

Or Russian roulette with 5 bullets in a 6-bullet revolver instead of 1 bullet.

Considering the rumored AF upgrade puts it in 1-series territory, yeah, I'm excited. Not stoked about the price, but it's about on par with Canon's recent price inflation. I'm waiting for the full spec list to see if it will be worth it.

As it stands now with what we "know", the 5DIII would be worth it for people who want higher continuous shooting framerates. If I shot a lot of sports I'd be happy to pay $500 over the D800 to double the framerate assuming most other specs measure up.

Did you see how D700 has better resolution than the D800? The soda can is so much bigger at 12mp vs. 36mp. ;)

There is no substitution for resolution, i.e. megapixels...

I'd guess that there will be better weather sealing, electronic level, 5 shot bracketing, better high ISO performance on top of what we "know" for it to warrant the $3500 price tag.

Anything else I'm missing???
