There is a used 5d I on Craigslist for $900. There is also a 5d MK II for $1700. Both of these seem like good deals, and I'm wanting to jump over to full frame. I originally wanted to wait on the MK III to see what happens but it seems like that's just a waiting game via rumors. Anyways I shoot mainly weddings and portraits, and am wanting to get the 70-200 IS II to go along with whichever one I get. Please let me know your thoughts!!

That's what I'm thinking :). I've never bought a used camera before. I'm planning on loading some test shots on my laptop, as well as check to make sure the inside is clean, buttons work, etc. Are there any other problems to look for or things to check?

Also, ( I KNOW its only rumors) but the MK III is supposedly being released in like a week. Is $1700 a good enough deal to jump on or should I wait and see if the III comes out the II drops even more?

Since you are bringing a laptop, download the utility so you can check the shutter count on the Mark II

They're decent deals, but not GREAT. You can probably find a better deal on the 5DI even here on the POTN buy/sell forum and the price on the 5DII seems to be about the going rate depending on its condition.

Thanks for the advice! I'll see what the shutter count is on the MK II and then try and talk him down

I've got the 5Dc, at that price difference I'd go for the 5d2. i picked my 5dc up with a canon grip, 4 batteries, RRS L plate, strap, boxes, docs, etc. for $800. You can do better than the CL price, it's a sweet camera that can produce nice images.

I would wait a couple weeks and see if the newer 5DX or what ever is released. If they do release it, the gear hogs will be selling off like this equipment is no good all of the sudden. wait, it will be to you advantage in every respect, 5D or 5d2. believe me the new one will be soooooo much better that some people can't live without it..... <------ joke.

if you don't need the speed jumping to Full Frame will benefit your images.
