T3i or wait for next release?

Currently have the older XSi model and debating about upgrading and purchasing the T3i body.

I don't want to get the T3i only to find the newer model is released a month or two later.

Any idea when the next release is due?

If you like the T3i, you may as well get it now. The T4i will likely either re-use the same sensor (AGAIN) or have a much higher price (seems to be the canon trend) or both. Other features are non-value added to me. One reason to wait would be for the price of the T3i to go down

Does that mean upgrading from an XSi to a T3i wouldn't be worth it?

I don't see it as much of an upgrade to go from one Rebel model to another.

haven't seen anything about that body being upgraded. get one now.

Buy a 60D it'll beat the Rebels for a few generations longer then a newer rebel anyway.

T4i was talked about on Canon Rumors. it is coming very shortly. I would at least wait to see what the specs are before getting the T3i.

What is it that you want out of the T3i that your XSi doesn't do? The XSi is still a rock-solid camera.

Why do you want to upgrade? If its for video then sure the T3i would be a great choice.. If you want a better camera that does video the T2i would be cheaper but doesn't have the flip out screen.

Rebel to Rebel isn't really an upgrade save video and...video? If you had an XS or XT maybe. ISO gotten better and AF than those older basic models but still very solid cameras all around. An upgrade would be leaving that Rebel title IMO. Other than that, you're just changing cameras for a few more bells and...bells since whistles would imply there's more to the upgrade.

How can we even guess unless we know more about your situation? If we knew features you liked in the T3i over your XSi, then we'd have something to go on.

If you want video, get the T3i
If you want decent images at ISO6400, get the T3i
If you want better overall images, practice more!

In a way I was speculating that they improved the image processor a bit between versions, but guess that is a wrong assumption.

It seems the only advantage is going to be new features.

I tend to carry both a video camera as well as the Canon so possibly combining the two into a single unit may be a good enough reason.

The better video in later Rebel bodies also represents a better Live View functionality in LCD, and electronics.
Without making major changes (note very little was improved upon T2i to T3i) the largest single improvement with the T4i would be micro adjust. However I will be surprised if they include that feature, it already seems beyond many XXD owners.
I have seen the T4i ruored to be introduced this Spring. They usually update the Rebel every year or so.

At the very least I'd wait to see what the T4i offers. You may not want (need) the improvements, and it could very well drive down the price of the T3i.

And to all you Rebel slaggers out there .. Rebels are very capable cameras, and have their place in Canon's EOS line-up.
