Just had a lens reshuffle. My 24L II arrived today and is so good (and so close in terms of FL) that I ditched my 35L and immediately bought a 50L.

It had better be good!!

Welcome to the club Dawn. You'll luv it. It's become my lens of choice and I'm sure it isn't just the novelty of a new piece of glass. I think you do events and such like, don't you in which case the 24-70 may still be worth keeping ..... just a thought :)

Well, a big part of me selling the 24-70 is because I've decided to take a step back from doing events. I don't want to do weddings anymore, or really any events...even though the money is great! I'd mainly like to stick with portraiture. I'm hoping the 50 will be great for full-body portraits and maybe some headshots if I step back and crop down, although I also have the 70-200 2.8 IS II for that. On the wide end, I've got a great copy of the oldie but goodie 17-35 2.8 - hoping to use that as a walk around on my 7D if I go sightseeing!

I am admittedly a little nervous about going from a set up that has everything from 17-200 covered to one with gaps between 35-50 and 50-70, but hopefully I won't miss it since most of my photos from here on out should be portraits, both on-location and in my studio. :)

OMG Dawn you have a studio too. You're going places Girl!!! ;) Now I understand your ditching the 24-70. Makes a lot of sense. Pretty soon I imagine you'll be taking up membership of Le Club 85L too

All my best in your new venture.

Hey guys,

Thanks
Chester

By chance, after seeing your post in the 135L and the 35L threads, I looked here. Can there by a MOD that stops this person?

24L II + 50L = peanut butter and jelly :) The 24L II is my sharpest lens, its colors and contrast are remarkable. 50L: my all time favorite lens, it won't let you down. It's not as sharp as the 24L, but it takes altogether different photos. Both are capable of making amazing images!

So debating getting this and selling my 35L. Can you describe what makes it so different? It's so pricey...thanks

Both the 24L II and 35L take superb images, so image quality-wise you can't go wrong with either. Build-wise, the 24 has the latest tech (sub wavelength nano coating), and is weather sealed. The biggest difference, and what you should really base your decision upon, is the focal length. Is 35mm wide enough for you, does it fit your style or photographic needs? Are there other lenses are in your quivver that compliment the 24 or 35?

Is the price of the 24L II justifiable? I think it is, as it is the fastest wide-angle, AF lens on the market. It fits my need for an indoor, up close, low light image making machine :)
