Here is the Canon WFT Server with my Archos 80 G9 tablet (8in screen)

It has a 1024x768 screen (so no more scrolling to see full images), Honeycomb 3.2 and a full sized usb connector for the card reader

The real kicker is the 250gb hard drive for storing images (incl. Raw) on it while travelling. It's almost the perfect travelling companion, except the speakers are not stereo, but I guess you can't ask for much if it only cost USD350.

I've got Photoshop Touch and RawPal Gallery (raw file viewer) running on it

8in screen has pretty good resolution, but it's not a retina display

That is great. My problem is, and someone eluded to it, the Canon WFT is just plain ridiculous. Price wise for many it just doesnt make sense. I am hoping that Eye-Fi and new Ice Cream Sandwhich all start to put things together to make it more affordable and seamless.

Found an article at Luminous Landscape--tablets for photographers is the first section...

http://www.luminous-landscape.com …r_photographers_pt1.shtml (external link)

The second section reviews software--for slablets (;-)a ) and iPads:

http://www.luminous-landscape.com …s/tablet_pcs_part_2.shtml (external link)

We bought 2 slablets before buying iPads. They were an early android operating system. Didn't enjoy the experience. Seeing some posts here, perpaps need to reconsider.

Best,
Dave

I think the main differences between the WFT and eye-fi are camera control and the unlimited capacity, it looks like only the Eye-fi Pro X2 can handle raw files.

Also the flaky performance of the CF adaptor for the SD cards has been documented, you need to get the right one
http://support.eye.fi …pact-flash-card-adapters/ (external link)

I guess with my experience of the WFT-e4a II it is very robust once you have set it up right.

So to look at the financial equation for a CF user, it would be about $140 per eye-fi card and the adaptor so your looking around $240 as you would need 2 cards and one adaptor at a minimum, the wft is about $680, but it is also a vertical grip ($240 by it self) as well. So the $200 gap is really for the extra camera control, full size ethernet and usb ports and a good level of performance, which is not too bad

Developments in ICS look promising, but I can't see how the solutions can provide the wireless capability without tethering the camera to a wireless device of some sort (eg. notebook, tablet etc.) , when you think about it, this is exactly what the WFT-e4a II grip etc. provides. It would be great if the next generation of cameras had wi-fi transmission/connectivity built into the body, but the external trend looks like continuing with the WFT-E6a on the 1dx http://www.robgalbraith.com …age.asp?cid=7-11666-12020 (external link)

Could BlueTooth be integrated to provide such services? BT USB Adapters are now as small as practical, to still provided a fingertip grip. Cost: $10 or so...

There have been a number of DIY wireless USB kits for replacing the WFT grip at a much much more reasonable cost.

My favorite one was integrated into a battery grip, the problem with them is that they need access to battery power to actually run and the range is a bit hit and miss.

If you have the technical skills to solder and whatnot, you could probably make your own WFT without ethernet, but full usb control of the camera rather cheaply.

Personally, i'm just waiting on a tablet that has the hdmi capable of taking the 5d2 feed and becoming a giant 2nd monitor, then i'd just grip it to my tripod.

Have you considered the Lilliput monitors

I like the Archos 80 G9 tablet, thinking of getting it. Can I use a card reader with it to dl photos direct and view them on screen?

I have been an apple guy so no idea with android but want a low cost device to bring with me.

Reading through this thread I jumped feet first into the eye-fi with my acer iconia and 5d mkii. Took everyons advice about which adapter and have had no problems. I tried the Mophotos app and I liked it but it only worked the first time I tried it. I haven't been able to use it since. Swithed to the eye-fi app and am very happy. I only use it to display jpegs in studio. Get about 15 to 20 feet of range out of it but don't need more than that.

I'm still in the market for a tablet. Given the release of the Ipad3, will it be the king? Is there a droid tablet out there (now or near future) equal or superior to the new Pad?

Doesn't matter how many pixels they put on the screen, Apple still isn't going to give you control over the device to allow something like DSLR Controller, among other things.
