Feb 25, 2012 19:22 | #3 First off, Lets go over a few things, Had this lens for a while now, Its always had a slightly iffy problem with focusing in good light, or with light colored subjects.. Oddly enough it works great in low light, Just if i try to use it in daylight the focus tends to not work correctly Crop 1 showing where the focus point was (Her face, Obviously) Crop 2 showing what ended up in focus Obvious backfocus.... Heres the one that made me make the thread... Focus was on the dog's face... But yet... Heres his butt.. His butt is definitely more in focus than his face from what i can see... But wait... Thats from the right side of the image as you can see above...its in front of the dog.. Now that looks in focus as well.. So whats going on there? Heres another from the series showing the same thing: Back of the dog's head showing where i focused..and showing the handle of the cart is clearly in better focus http://img.photobucket.com …Photography/6158Crop1.jpg But again, Right side of the image, same package http://img.photobucket.com …Photography/6158Crop2.jpg Heres a link to another i took.. No crop because its pretty obvious IMHO http://img.photobucket.com …/Photography/IMG_6171.jpg And then this one came out fine.. http://img.photobucket.com …/Photography/IMG_6170.jpg And yet another in the "fine" category... http://img.photobucket.com …/Photography/IMG_6151.jpg Crop to show... http://img.photobucket.com …/Photography/6151Crop.jpg Obviously its not being consistent i think we can all agree on this (And as i said, Shot over a thousand shots with this thing, Lots of different subjects, Yes, all my examples at the moment are dogs but i've had it do it with rocks and etc, I burst 3-4 images at a time too to rule out movements by subject or camera and etc... and i refocus between bursts...) More or less wanting to get a good accurate description of the issues to send it to Sigma and get it fixed Gear, New and Old! RAW Club Member

JeffreyG "my bits and pieces are all hard" More info | Feb 25, 2012 20:42 | #4 The only lens I have that can give me these same kinds of head scratchers is the Canon 24-70L. That lens as a seriously curved 'plane' of focus. The curvature can lead to some real strange effects regarding what is and what is not in focus.
