My little boy, born 10 weeks early on Wednesday. Doing well, but expected to be in the hospital for awhile. Born 2 lbs 6 ounces and boy is he little!
Congratulations. I've been there. My son was born almost 11 weeks early at just about the same weight in 1989. He's almost 23 now. A few things. First, the next couple of months will likely be a bit of a roller coaster. There will be good days and probably some frustrating ones. That's normal for extreme premies. Second, don't bother reading the baby books that tell you what your child should be doing at one month, three months, six months etc. The schedule is all off for premies, but he should be more or less caught up by the time he's two. Finally, as a general rule, premies tend to come home sometime around their original due date. Not sure what the standards are today, but in 1989 they also wanted the body weight to be around two kilograms before sending a child home. Good luck to you and your wife.
