Really, I am...

Whats wrong with me? Now I'm thinking I should get an 85mm f/1.8 to go with my lovely 35mm f/2 and my Sigmalux and my 100L...

Not that I'm going to do it right this moment, But if my friend comes down like we're planning, then I think the 85mm f/1.8 would be a very nice lens to have for some portraits...

They pop up on the classified here pretty regularly. Good lens for a good price.

DO IT.

Me too..i put the 85 1.8 +hood in my cart last night. Having about $1500 to spend, i was thinking of it and the 28 1.8.. giving decent fast coverage.. together with my 50 1.4. That would only leave the 135L for a sound(but not uber-expensive) prime setup.

IOW..there's nothing wrong with you.. or that would mean there's something wrong with me. ;)

I saw one at a local store yesterday and was so tempted to pop it on my 7D and take it for a whirl..

I keep hearing its one of the little gems nowone talks about in Canon's lineup... Sharp, contrasty, Good bokeh, Awesomely quick AF speed

Also I want a longer macro lens, a longer macro lens will probubly be less practical for portraits than the 100L is, So something like a quick 85 prime can be used for those while my macro is just a macro..

Sure, i love my 15-85 and 70-200 f/4L IS dont get me wrong... But.. Horses for courses ;)

I have a love hate relationship with the 85mm f/1.8, first off I do like it about 1000x more than the 85mm F/1.2 MkII, especially for the money. The L just focuses too slow for me. So I have owned about 4 of these. Its a weird focal length for me on a 1.3x crop. Its a little tighter then my 50mm but doesn't quite have the reach of my 135mm... I might end up buying another one when i pick up a full frame camera.

My only reservation about the 85 1.8, is the well-documented PF issue.

Great little lens. I love it. Buy it.CA is a little hairy but still a bang up, crazy fast lens.

It's my go-to lens for indoor sports, I do a lot of basketball in the winter. Always fast focus, images are sharp, and you can't beat 1.8 in a dim gymnasium.

Buy it! You won't be sorry!
