I was going to buy the Mark II, but after seeing the spec, i'm really thinking about selling all my gears except the sigma 50mm and elinchrom to get this baby. Hate that price, it should be 3k or less

I'm still getting used to my 5d mk ii (paid $2799 w/24-105, sold lens for $850 and the printer (free after MIR) for $200, so I got a good deal) but would consider selling it and trading up for a few key features.

I'd assume that the expanded ISO range is equivalent to increased DR and base ISO, as higher sensitivity ISO is basically equivalent to higher signal-to-noise ratio... would be nice if that was coupled with real 14-bit processing. I really don't like HDR's look and would be nice for arch shots like this where you don't want to blowout exterior views visible from inside:

Also want electronic leveling (finding the bubble levels on my arca head aren't totally accurate) but I assume that will be there.

Those specs sound very nice if that is what will be officially announced! :)

I wonder what they have for a 'kit'? the 24-105 still?

Everyone was basically begging for a 5D sensor in a 7D body. This sounds like that with whipped cream and a cherry on top. I know what I'll be shooting with this year.

Exactly. I've had my 5D2 for 3 years and it was the best money I've ever spent. Now it's time for a refresh. If they don't give us expanded brackets, I'm gonna be unhappy.

I will wait and see some high ISO images first before I buy but I expect it will be a great camera. Just funny seeing all the forum battles going on already about it.

i'm so used to the articulating screen of my 60D for any angle shooting. if it don't come with it. i'd rather invest in lens for the moment.

with the arti screen, you don't have to crawl to the ground for a low angle shots. or climb for a high angle shots.

No, the page from the AU website posted above showed the kit lens as the new 24-70 f/2.8.

interesting combo, but going to very pricy :)

this camera sounds like it may cut into the 1DX sales quite badly.

If the specs are true, I'm thrilled. The 5DIII is going to be what the 5D2 should have been - keep the megapixels relatively the same and improve the speed and autofocus of the camera. Good job Canon :)

"Everyone was basically begging for a 5D sensor in a 7D body."

Yeah. But Canon didn't listen to anyone. No weather sealing. Not the proverbial brick outhouse we were waiting for. Basically a 1MP upgrade for a 1200 premium.

So I'll stick with my 5D2 and wait for the 5D4. Too bad.

So I guess this ends all 'I'm gonna jump ship to the D800 if the Mk3 is not released soon' talk that appears on nearly every Canon based forum?

Improved durability & water and dust resistance

Different wording, but it's included.

Since the specs are not published yet, there's no way to make any informed judgment about this. Second, the way this is phrased, you assume nothing else was changed besides the sensor MP count. What about the new Digic 5 processor?

The 22.3mp is a big disappointment to me. But as I'd only recently upgraded to the 5D2, it's no more than that.

I had already decided to await the Canon 1Ds mk4. Now some will be shouting at me saying Canon will not produce such a camera. I believe they will. Once the Olympics are over, the fuss has died down and Japan is back to proper manufacturing after the tsunami, they will suddenly remember they once produced the worlds best studio/landscape/portrait camera and wonder why they stopped.

Whether thats 2 years or 5, I can wait.
