I'll be sticking with Canon provided what's on paper translate into real performance. Then again I had no issues shooting wedding this year with the 5D2 so I am sure the 5D3 will be a lovely upgrade.

Let's face it. The 5D3 and D800 are just very different cameras. Role reversal in some ways too.

What's funny is seeing all the fanboys coming out of the woodwork every time a new camera is announced.

I've always wanted to be a fanboy but had difficulties sticking with one brand.

Finally found a 50/1.8g, should be here next week. Wouldn't mind doing a quick upgrade of my Fuji, it's a bit underwhelming.

That canon AF system really needs all those cross points.

Just saw the ISO 3200 sample. Looks like heavy NR has been applied. Looking around for better samples now.

I didn't pre-order 5D3...a little underwhelming compares to D800 and cost more $$

I agree its a very different camera, in fact I think the 5D mkIII is aimed towards the D700 than the D800. Btw I read an article stating that Nikon claims the D800 is
Not a replacement of te D700, its a new line

Just got the 5d3 email from B&H, I think Canon did a great job! The AF looks wonderfully upgraded and the Digic 5 processing is a hit. Good deal!

Looks like the D700 is now at the right price for me. Time to put the D7000 and 17-55 2.8 up for sale.

I guess this would be the best place to find out but I'm on the verge of switching to the D800 when it's readily available. Getting rid of the 70-200ii is going to be painful to say the least but I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on the difference between that and the VRii. I'll probably be making the equivalent switch so 35 1.4G and 70-200VRii

IQ is equivalent. If I remember correctly, the Canon focuses closer and with the Nikon when you focus at it's minimal focusing distance it's really only 135mm instead of 200mm. Overall you will be very happy.

What I really liked about the VR II is that it is so much smaller almost like my old 24-70 L overall I find Nikkor to be smaller than Canon. Its better for travel, but have no idea on moment on impact yet... it is bound to happen...

p.s I think its gonna be hard to beat the 70-200 IS II though - easily my go to lens before...

I doubt you will see big difference between both 70-200.

That was my first thought upon seeing the specs for both cameras. The grass is always greener on the other side, even for manufacturers!
