Just bought the ELPH 300 HS

I always like having a little P&S camera with me. For years, I have been using the ELPH Powershot SD300 (4MP). It's done a great job over the years, but I finally decided to upgrade to something that can handle more than a 2GB memory card.

So, because I loved the size of the ELPH so much, I decided to get the 300 HS. I got it right after Christmas for $148. This is just my daily shooter and not meant to replace my DSLR (XSI). However, I have to laugh at it because it uses DIGIC 4 processing compared to the DIGIC III in my Rebel. And both are 12MP (12.1 for the 300 and 12.2 for the XSI). When my P&S is better than my DLSR, I guess it's time to upgrade my DLSR! haha

So far, the only thing I do not like about it is the flash placement. It's placed in the top left corner of the camera and in certain shooting conditions the lens will cast a shadow on the image. So the bottom right part of the image is black.

The new ELPH HS cameras are great, I played around with the 100HS and was very impressed with the image quality. If I had more common sense maybe I would have saved the money on the S100 and bought a ELPH 300HS instead.

I think you will really like the 300. The wife stole my SD1200 on me when I got a G12.

The thing is so handy you may even forget you have it with you. It will fit very comfortably in a shirt pocket without dragging the pocket down. Get the smallest camera case you can that will fit it and wear on your belt if you like. It's not much different than wearing a cell phone on your belt. Attach the wrist strap which makes it very easy to pull the camera out of the case. I just left the strap hanging outside the case since it is not that big anyway but that is a choice you can make.

The case I used was a Lowpro for about $10.00 at Best Buy. Canon wants your right arm for their cases plus $10.00.

I bought a Crumpler Thirty Al (Medium) for my S100, it can easily attach to your belt and the camera slides in and out nicely. And it's cool looking!

I just bought the 300hs and having some issues in the image quality, i looks like lack of contrast and dull even in good lighting condition. I need to post process the pictures so that i can get the looks that i want. Even when it is set the my colors to vivid mode it looks like flat and not punchy color. Is this normal or there is a problem in my cam?

My vivid color setting is pretty vivid. Everyone is going to want to see examples.

Try ev -1/3, vivid is very vivid on mine.I like positive film.

Just got the 300 for my daughter -- on clearance from BB. Really pleased.

It is definitely a fun, little camera and produces nice photos.
