Maui Whale

I have not been here as much due to my health. I am not taking pictures as much for the same reason . I was lucky to go on a trip to Maui recently. I have always wanted to get a great picture of a whale, and I did not do very well. I used my 7D and my 70-200mmL lens, which I cannot hold very well anymore. I know I messed up on the settings, and my focus is off, but is there anyway to save this picture? Thanks to anyone who can help!

I am not a fan of cropping, but in this case it may be the only way. But when you crop, just make sure to make it the same shape as it is now, if that makes sense. It would have been awesome to see more of the whale too.

Looks like a whale just breeching taken from a long distance. So this is probably a crop.
It seems to be a very de-saturated image. I can't get any color out of it; but here is what I did.

The low contrast of the shot in general makes the whale blend in to the background too much. I guess I can see now why most of the photos of breaching whales are from the surface level, though this probably wasn't an option for you.

I wish I could offer an edit but I don't think I'm that good in PS. Qbx did a decent job...better than I would have done that's for sure. Can't wait to see what he can do with the orginal file.

You know, I have to start thinking that way, thanks for that . It is just hard to have so much difficulty in something that used to come so easy. I may have to sell my 100-400 L that I love so much, I just cannot hold it any longer

This is all I could do with the original. At least we can see its eye and some detail. Frankly I'm puzzled that there was not more detail in the original since it was taken with a 70-200 L on a 7D body at 1/1600 sec.
