How good is Canon about filling orders?

I'm curious, how good Canon is about getting enough supply to the distributers? (i.e. anyone know about what has typically happened in the past?)

The reason I'm asking is because I pre-ordered the 24-70 II about 5 days after its announcement and I just pre-ordered the 5D3 (2-3 days after its announcement)...took a while for the pricing to marinade in my head and decide if I wanted to proceed.

The 24-70 II is supposed to be released mid-April and the 5D3 at the end of March. That being said, I am getting married in mid-May and going to Italy, Greece, and Turkey shortly thereafter.

So I'm hoping I'll have both in time for my honeymoon...Or should I be concerned? This will also dictate when I should sell my gear that I'm using to help fund the full-frame upgrade.

Thanks ahead.

Joe

It very much depends on the retailers relationship with Canon some companies get stuff much quicker than others.

I ordered through Adorama for both...so I'm hoping things will be on time. Guess I'll find out.

Just wasn't sure what happened with the 7D or the 5D2 when they first came out.

Having dealt with Adorama, and several other of the big name New York City camera stores, I think the pipeline is huge and these stores will get product very rapidly. One has to be careful however about Jewish holidays and potential shutdowns, depending on the store. Passover this year for instance is Sunset of April 6 through nightfall of April 14.

Joe,

You might have it, but given your plans (marriage, travel) I'd have a backup plan ready. I really think they'll be able to deliver to meet your timeframe, but schedules sometimes slip.

That's what I'm thinking as well. I'll keep the 7D and 17-55 until things arrive. If they don't come before the honeymoon, then my concerns will shift to the packages arriving while I'm away with no one to sign for them.
