I keep coming back to this image. I like it, it's *damn near perfect. I especially am pulled towards the shadows, with the eyelashes being a very pleasent touch. Accident or contrived, the expression, light and colour is A+ IMHO.

These are two shots of the entrance to the Great Falls on the Passaic River in Paterson, New Jersey.
It and the surrounding 118 acres became a national park in 2009.

New Jersey is a physically small state with a huge population. You can't drive in any rural area, in most of the state, for more than 15-20 minutes without hitting a major housing development, shopping mall, or industrial warehouse or business complex. Canon's main east coast facility, a huge building in Dayton NJ, is located in such a "rural" area along with scores of huge modern warehouses, each one around half a mile apart.

The Falls are actually right in the middle of a small city. While most people don't realize it, there are many beautiful areas in NJ. Lots of hills and valleys, low mountains, lots of small rivers and streams. The Raritan River, as an example, (not the one in these photos) varies in places from a few hundred feet wide to a couple of thousand, but its shallow with sandbars below the surface and not navigable. As a result there is no shipping, no factories and little housing along its banks. Many parts of it look like it did 200 years ago, heavily wooded on both sides. Its quite beautiful I will post some pictures of it when spring arrives.

Between the grey skies and the mist from the falls, the one I took from the bridge is not as vibrant as I had hoped. I'll need to play with it a little.
