Lightroom 4.0 or Wait for 4.1

I know it was released today but my thinking is wait for 4.1 cause I can't afford a screw-up in my database.

Thoughts?

I'm holding out for 5.3.

4.1 will merely add support for cameras launched after the 4.0 was launched, and fix some bugs that might have been undetected. Upgrade from one version to another seldom causes issues of database portability from one rev to another.

The app has been in development for years. Two months of public beta used by a huge number of people. Closed beta for 2 months before that with several hundred testers. What will change in the next 3 months? Are you referring to a LR3 database? Isn't it backed up?

Well, I found that to be applicable to the first version of Lightroom -- LR 1.0 had some problems but they had been ironed out by LR1.3, if I recall correctly.

But at this point you can grab LR4 and, if you wish, keep using LR3 (the LR4 version won't wipe out LR3), but at least you could start using LR4 and then you can decide for yourself whether it's worth fully switching over.

A good alternative is to download/install the free trial of LR4. You'll have 30 days to do your own evaluation -- if it's buggy you can again keep using LR3 and then just wait until LR4.1 if the issues have been resolved.

I bought, downloaded and installed LR4 today and imported my entire LR3 catalog over to it without even doing a backup first. No problems here at all. Call me crazy but I live on the edge.

Is that price right? $149 for the full version of lightroom 4?

I am in the wait for the .1+, I prefer to wait until any bugs are worked out, that and LR 3 is still working for me. Never been much for the "latest and greatest" mindset.

I noticed Adobe and B&H have the same price of US$149. I wonder how long that will last?

No problems updating my LR3 catalog to LR4. Today is a very good day!

I upgraded today and it was painless. Really liking the new development features.
