I'm not a fan of the way the 5D handles. I had a 50D when I bought a 5Dc. Beautiful files, but I hated using the thing, so I sold it and picked up a 1dsmkII. I say try it out extensively before you buy it.

No, I'm not a professional photographer, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I went from a 40D to a 5D and although I miss my EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 (which is such an amazing lens that I haven't sold mine...in case I pick up a 7D) I would never, ever trade back. The 5D is like others have said, almost like a film camera. Its AF and metering are not foolproof -- in other words, it makes you think instead of rescuing you all the time and letting you get away with not paying attention. The 5D's "flaws," if you can call them that, have made me a better photographer.

Right now a used 5D Classic is one of the best deals out there. Unlike used 1D models, there doesn't seem to be a gigantic spread in price based on condition or shutter count, so I would suggest looking for one in pristine shape with low mileage. You'll almost certainly be able to sell it for very close to what you pay for it. You'll almost certainly want to keep it, too.

You'll lose fancy things like a million-pixel LCD, but the image quality is still fantastic on the 5Dc providing you don't need to make huge prints. It's still an incredible workhorse of a camera.
