I always wanted to travel with a light tripod that can be carried with my camera bag a the back. What's a good sturdy and light weight there these days on the market I can get? I haven't buy a tripod for 5 years, the only one I have is a very heavy Manfrotto tripod.(I love it, but too heavy for travelling) Would love someone to give me some suggestions. Thanks!

around 200 budget

Budget? Do you need a ball head, too? What will you be asking it to support (weight capacity is a concern and this will help us with recommendations for you)?

You have options to choose from, Benro, Fesiol, Gitzo being three of them.

That doesn't answer the other two questions I had, but for starters...

I think any of the following would serve you well.

Benro c2680t

Feisol 3441t

Gitzo 154_t (the following is a review on the 1541t, but it's been replaced by the 1542t)

You could look here. Some cheaper ones but it's worth spending a bit more than having a 200 dollar piece of non sturdy crap ; )

I have a carbon Manfrotto 055 and a ball head. They seem to be really light.

You want cheap AND sturdy AND light? Impossible. Now 2 out of 3 might be, but its your call.

CF manfrotto 'pods are not particularly light in comparison to other CF tripods out there. In fact, they're relatively heavy when you consider their load ratings versus weight.

@OP: as mentioned, you will very likely not find a tripod that is all 3 of the following: cheap, sturdy, light. If you want sturdy and light, it will be expensive. If you want cheap and light, it probably won't be very sturdy. If you want sturdy and cheap, it will be heavy.

jmarsh photo Benro A1691<-- this seems to be a good tripod to fit the $200 mark
will it be okay to hold a 5d + 70-200 2.8is?

i see that it's 8kg load (17.6lbs), so probably can hold a 4lbs lens + a 2lbs camera

OR

add a bit more for that C0681

OR

not sure why it's 220ish, so cheap for the left 1

Pick two of these three: light weight, low cost, stability. The best for $200 is a Manfrotto aluminum tripod which is heavy but very stable.

I have been happy with this. I use it for weddings and it is VERY compact.

Not a long track record, it's only been talked about here for about a year. It doesn't mean it's not a decent tripod, just be cautious on something new on the block. You don't want to spend a couple hundred bucks just to see it fall apart after two years. A couple people here have tried those sticks.

Oben tripods (thru B&H) get good reviews and well priced. The aluminum tripods aren't heavy (around 3-4lbs).
