I was hoping our one of our area Flickers would show up and this Downey Boy flys in. I still hope to get the Flickers before they head north for the spring and summer (they always do). He was a welcome alternative.

It's not often that we see these perched on a branch like that. Excellent shot, Mark.

I was thinking exactly the same Levina, they are almost always vertical! Good clear image.

Very pretty shot, Mark. For some reason I get the females posing for me more than the males :):)

Pretty looking gentleman Downy Mark!
I know you wanted your Flicker, believe me I do too, but you could've done a whole lot worse than this guy.
I too seem to have males who are more willing to pose for me than the females, and I see them both on and off branches all the time. It is a slightly different look for them though and you did a great job capturing this one.

Thanks to all for the nice comments.
A little bit of info is required, I feel. Right below this "branch" is my 4 sided home-made suet feeder(s). I have noticed that the woodpeckers seem to always fly straight to the suet without stopping. I thought I would give them a chance to land on the branch first, before dining. Plus I try to avoid shooting the birds of any kind on a feeder. These perches are the way to go.
