This battery grip for the new 5D MkIII is now available on the B & H site for $349 instead of the $490 as listed by Canon. Now we are able to get both the body and grip. Now all we need is an Arca-Swiss compatible L-bracket.

Promising to see that come out below the Canon MSRP, makes me wonder if other aspects (such as the body?) might follow suit..

Definitely not until demand slows down!

I'm fuming over Canon's move to a new battery grip for 5Dmk3. Total rip-off, even at the "discounted" price.

It uses different batteries and has functionality the previous one did not. Would I like it for $250? Sure. $350 is not that big a deal.

The BG-E11 (and 5D Mark III) use the same batteries as the Mark 2 & 7D (LP-E6). Also, the grip now comes with a joystick (multi function controller, as seen in on CanonRumors (though not originally from there)) and a multi-function button (mimicking the one on the 7D next to the shutter).

My apologies, you are right, it has been a while since I used the 5DII that I forgot it had the same batteries. To me the joystick is huge. It is awkward having to go across the body to change focal point on the 7D now. I am looking forward to it.

That's pretty big bucks just for a battery grip. Yikes!

No reason to apologize, everyone makes mistakes. But yeah, the joystick is huge. I kind of wish they'd show some back pictures of the grip to show it off.

I think this means the leaked pictures featured on CanonRumors were accurate - grip with a joystick, 3:2 screen, that really does appear to have been the 5D3..

No, the 7D, 5D Mk II, and 5D Mk III al use the LP-E6 battery.

At least Canon retailers are only asking $349 instead of the list price of $490. Nikon's grip for the D800 lists out Something like $629 but is being sold at $449. That's $100 more than the Canon.

really like the design of the new grip, it looks like its not as thick/bulky as the current grip and would almost feel like the 1D grip. hopefully aftermarket companies will make the molding of it, attach the joystick and make it compatible for the current 7D or 5D2
