I also recommend getting Sigma 50mm f1.4. I started using 5Dc with this as my sole lens. After using it for about a month or 2, you will probably know what others you wanna add to your collection.

And to add, the AF issue is overhyped. I had a problem when I was purchasing mine, not because of missed focusing, but because all 3 that were shown to me were sharp straight out of box. It created a bit of a "good" problem for me as a result :)

Just bought a used 5d Classic on Ebay but I obviously can't use it without a lens. I plan to shoot street photography and spontaneous portraiture with it... Also thinking of the Canon 50/ 1.4 but I fear for any possible AF issues it might have. The Canon 85/1.8 sounds enticing indeed though I'm not sure it would make a good walk about lens.

What are your opinions?

Well for street photography, a normal lens is perfect! So your 50mm options would be your top choices in my opinion.

Why wouldn't it!? It is an extremely light prime lens that produces great image quality! It's annoyingly loud when focusing but for a hundred bucks it's a steal!

EF 50mm f/1.8 II or EF 50mm f/1.4.

I'm undecided between the Canon 50/1.4 and the Sigma equivalent. Both can have potential defects. (AF stopping altogether for the Canon and front/back focusing issues for the Sigma.) I'm leaning towards the Sigma due to the beautiful bokeh it renders though I'm scared I'll get a bad copy.

Should I opt for the Tamron 28-75/2.8 instead?
