So I am guessing that one needs the fastest available SD card for the 5Diii to get the most out of it?

My CF card is a 60 mbs Extreme is this ok or need to be upgraded as well?

The write speeds of the cameras are actually not all that high. 30mbs is overkill so far for every EOS when running still modes.

Fast cards might affect video, but I'm pretty video ignorant. I know my 1D4 has no issues with burst or video using even 15 mbs cards. I bet 15 mbs cards would be fine in a 5D3 as well.

I use a Canon 5DIII and a Sony A7rIII

well how fast do you need to shoot? the camera also has a buffer so you don't NEED the fastest card if you are just going to be bursting....

also, depends on what kind of video you plan to do...

Canon lists video bitrate at 685 MB/min = 11.4 MB/s, a 20 MB/s card should have no problem as long as it actually meets it's spec. If the camera has a max write speed, then there is no purpose buying a card faster then that speed.

Thanks for reply's,
Very interesting, so it makes you wonder what the purpose of a 100 mbs card is, would it be for faster downloading to your computer?

You'll notice the difference when uploading to computer. I normally used a 60mb/sec card, then used a friends 30mb/sec and I thought I broke something because it took forever to load the images

I'm going for this combo. Already bought the CF. I may change the SDcard though. Most likely overkill but whatever :P

Careful, the 5D3 doesn't support UHS-1

Thanks for the warning.
I found that out the other day after I placed my sd card order.

You do not need the fastest cards, though the MK3 supports UDMA7 which is the fastest mode. But beware the UDMA 7 is at the bleeding edge and it costs the most. The video does not require as fast a card as sustained 6fp/s photo shoot. I think 30MB/s (write speed, watch out, they sometimes list the read speed, not the write speed) is enough for video. I bought SD cards rated at 45MB/s and CF cards at 60MB/s and 90MB/s (all sandisk). I also bought a UDMA 7 card (lexar), rated at 150MB/s, which will be the only one that might be able to "sustain" 6fp/s rate for photo. But it again depends on how you set up the camera (if you are shooting JPEG/RAW or just RAW,and how you use the CF and SD cards etc).

Can you enlighten on the best set up to obtain the 6fp/s ratio
I presume it slows down the rate if you choose Raw + backup to SD card? or Raw + Jpeg?
